Repurpose and Reuse Workshop

On May 11, 2017, NAATBatt held a workshop at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan focusing on the repurposing and reuse of xEV batteries in non-vehicle applications.  The workshop featured presentations and panel discussions among some of the leading experts in second life battery use and examined the issues and opportunities related to reusing battery packs originally designed for use in vehicles in applications, such as grid storage, home energy systems and xEV recharging stations, for which they were not originally designed. NAATBatt Workshop on Advanced Battery Recycling

On November 30, 2016, NAATBatt hosted a workshop at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan on the issue and opportunities related to recycling large format, lithium-ion batteries. As xEV and ESS systems using lithium-ion batteries age and are eventually removed from service, the volume of superannuated lithium-ion batteries is expected to increase dramatically. How best to dispose of this potentially hazardous waste stream has not yet been determined. The workshop assembled experts in battery recycling from North America, Europe and China to discuss this issue.  Speaker presentations, photos and an attendee list from the workshop can be viewed by clicking on the button to the right.

NAATBatt Annual Conference 2015

The National Alliance for Advanced Technology Batteries (NAATBatt) held its 2015 Annual Meeting & Conference at The Wigwam Resort in Phoenix (Litchfield Park), Arizona on February 16-19. The two-and-a-half day program was designed to help delegates identify new revenue opportunities in the business of electrochemical energy storage technology and make new connections in the industry.

This year’s meeting saw the return of the highly acclaimed M&A panel, discussing merger and acquisition activity in the advanced battery and energy materials industries over the past year. Delegates heard about near term developments in materials that will be making lithium-ion batteries more capable and will open new market opportunities for other types of batteries and ultracapacitors. Delegates also heard about new applications enabled by emerging thin-film batteries that will create new business for battery and advanced materials makers and learn about new interests in the Department of Energy and Department of Defense that could drive commercial opportunity in the years ahead.
